When It's Time to Replace Your Shapewear

When It's Time to Replace Your Shapewear

Even the best-loved, best-cared-for shapewear doesn't last forever — the very stretch that makes it work slowly wears out with use. Knowing when to retire a piece means you're always getting real smoothing, not just wearing a snug memory of it. Here's what to look for. 🤍

It's lost its snap. The clearest sign. When the elastic feels loose, slack, or baggy — when a piece that used to hug you now just sits there — the fibres are spent. If it no longer smooths or holds the way it did, it's done its job and it's time.

It rolls or slides no matter what. If a piece that used to stay put now constantly rolls down or rides up even in the right size, the elastic has given out and it can't grip anymore.

The fabric is thin or see-through. Shapewear that's gone thin, sheer in patches, or pilled has been well used. Thinning fabric doesn't smooth evenly and shows more under clothes.

Damage that matters. Holes, runs, snapped or fraying seams, and hooks or clasps that no longer hold — small snags you can live with, but structural damage means it's not doing its job.

It smells or looks off even after washing. If odours linger or there's discolouration you can't wash out, the fabric has broken down at a level laundry can't fix.

So how long is that? With gentle care, a well-loved everyday piece typically gives you a good year or two of regular wear; firmer or heavily-worn pieces may go sooner. There's no exact expiry date — let how it performs be your guide.

When a favourite retires, treat it as a sign it served you well. And if you want help choosing the next one, we're always here. 🤍
